It’s not secret that Theo Tams is one of my favorite competitors in this year’s Canadian Idol competition. Yet while I loved his piano man routine, he was in danger of becoming a little predictable.
So this week I was thrilled to see Theo step out from the mic with his take on Joss Stone’s “You Had Me.”
Considering the caliber of this year’s Canadian Idol contestants, I had high hopes for this week’s unplugged show. It definitely didn’t disappoint. This stripped back format really gave each singer a chance to shine, and it was wonderful to watch.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Theo Tams stepped on stage to close the show. He took on Serena Ryder’s Weak at the Knees, and brought a new masculinity to this feminine ballad.
I had high hopes for this week’s episode of Canadian Idol, where the contestants were invited to visit rock and roll heaven. All the tunes were performed by the music industry’s dearly departed, so I knew the music would be top notch.
After a few shaky performances Amberly Thiessen was back to her best with this stirring rendition of Bob Marley’s Redemption Song.

Things are really heating up on Canadian Idol, with just 10 singers remaining. This year has unearthed some amazing talent, and it’s becoming harder and harder to predict who will be sent packing.
One man that I hope is safe for several weeks to come is Theo Tams. He comes out and delivers consistently brilliant performances every single week, and this one is no exception.
There’s so much talent in the Canadian Idol top 16 that the prospect of losing six of the contestants is frankly frightening! One lad who should be safe this week is young Mookie Morris, one of the coolest teens I’ve ever seen.
The contestants of Canadian Idol continue to impress me with their musical instincts and heartfelt performances. This week I was wowed by Oliver Pigott, one of two amazing Pigott brothers making up this year’s top 20.
Canadian Idol has a bit of a reputation for being more than a singing contest: they actually look for musicians. One of the brightest stars of the new season is Earl Stevenson, a very cool cat from Lloydminster, Alberta.
Here he does Dave Matthews doing Jimi Hendrix doing Bob Dylan, with an electrifying performance of All Along the Watchtower.
