Mookie Morris “Canadian Idol” Top 16 Video | Teen Sensation Rocks “Valerie”
There’s so much talent in the Canadian Idol top 16 that the prospect of losing six of the contestants is frankly frightening! One lad who should be safe this week is young Mookie Morris, one of the coolest teens I’ve ever seen.
He has a penchant for taking on British indie songs. The Canadian audience might not be familiar with the tunes he loves, but they seem to be embracing what he does anyway. This week he decided to tackle The Zutons’ hit Valerie, and he delivers the sort of authentically cool performance we’ve come to expect.
What is so appealing about Mookie is that he knows who he is. His voice isn’t classically perfect, but he makes the most of his trademark rasp. His dance moves may be unconventional, but he shows them off with wild abandon anyway.
Very few performers have such a strong sense of self. For Mookie to have it all figured out at 18 is impressive to say the least.
