Beauty and the Beast is an American drama series, which first aired in 1987. The retelling of the popular fairytale stars Linda Hamilton as the beautiful district attorney Catherine, and Ron Perlman as the beastly Vincent.

When Vincent finds Catherine beaten and left to die in Central Park, he becomes her guardian. He takes her to his father, part of a hidden community of outcasts living in the tunnels below New York City. The series focuses on the developing relationship between the Vincent and Catherine, and the secret Utopian community he belongs to.

In a twist from the original fairy story, the lionesque Vincent never transforms into society’s idea of beauty. Instead his inner beauty shines, while Catherine is transformed by her relationship with him.
