Cranky Geeks

Cranky Geeks is a webseries which discussed the latest news in the world of technology. It is hosted by industry expert John C. Dvorak, with the assistance of his co-crank, GigaOM editor Sebastian Rupley.

The hosts are joined each week by two special guest panelists. Entrepreneurs and technology writers are often featured on Cranky Geeks. Previous guest panelists have included graphic novellist Neil Gaiman, GigaOM executive editor Om Malik, internet entrepeneur Kevin Rose, and television personality Martin Sargent.

Videos are filmed in high-definition to preserve their quality in full-screen mode.

Clicking on an episode title in the archive takes browsers to an episode information screen. This contains information about the guests appearing on the show, the topics discussed, and much more. The Cranky Geeks player launches in a pop-up window containing several video controls. The first row of controls gives basic playback options, which allow browsers to pause and play the clips, adjust their volume, and view the videos in full-screen mode. A row of controls below this contains more advanced functions, which allow fans to embed the videos into a personal website, share them with friends using e-mail or social networking sites, and download them.

Additional download links are also presented on each episode's information page. Each episode is available to download in Quicktime, Windows Media Player, MP3, and mobile device formats. New episodes are streamed live from 4 pm ET every Wednesday. They are later available to stream and download directly from the site.
