D.I.Y. America
D.I.Y. America is a documentary series which explores American youth subcultures including skateboarding, punk and hip hop music, and graffiti.
The series gets to the heart of these subcultures by speaking to prominent leaders in these fields, including professional skateboarder Tony Hawk, Sonic Youth singer-songwriter Thurston Moore, and Minor Threat frontman Ian MacKaye. At the heart of the series is the value of creativity and perseverance.
D.I.Y. America was directed by Aaron Rose, and features footage unused in his critically acclaimed feature film Beautiful Losers.
Episodes are filmed in high-definition to ensure quality is preserved, even when viewing the clips in full-screen mode.
Video controls appear when hovering over the player window. These controls allow browsers to pause the episodes, view the episode duration and progress, and view the episodes in full screen mode, rate the episode out of five, and view more info. This info button shows a brief episode synopsis and links to the bands and locations featured in the episode. This same information is also given when the episodes are paused.
