I'm From Driftwood

The true stories of gay, lesbian, and transgender people come together in the touching documentary series I'm From Driftwood. They're not just from Driftwood, but from cities across the United States, and the rest of the world.

The viewer submitted videos feature personal, first-person accounts of their experiences living in the LGBT community. The channel's title is a response to the late Harvey Milk's "I'm From Woodmere, N.Y." sign carried at the San Francisco Gay Pride march. Channel founder Nathan Manske called his website "I'm From Driftwood,” as a nod to both Milk and his own home town. The message is simple: there are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer people everywhere.

I'm From Driftwood was conceived to help teens struggling with their own sexuality connect with others and feel less alone. It was also designed to help straight people learn more about their queer neighbors, both in their own community and as citizens of planet Earth.

A large image at the top of the channel's video page draws browsers attention to a featured video. Smaller images underneath this correspond to videos in three different categories. There are the "celeb stories," featuring the real life confessions of LGBTQ stars, the "coming out" stories, which tell the tales of young people coming to terms with their sexuality, and the "AIDS/Life Cycle" videos, which feature people of all sexual orientations touched by AIDS and working to eradicate the disease and help those affected by it.
