Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a criminal drama series, which deals with the investigation of sexually-based crimes. It is part of NBC's popular Law & Order franchise.

The series primarily follows the investigations of Detective Elliot Stabler, played by Christopher Meloni, and his partner Detective Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay. The hardened Detective Stabler often shows outrage at the horrific crimes he sees, while the softer Detective Benson is often demonstrates empathy for the victims.

Their work is overseen by the tough but supportive Captain Donald Cragen. Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak and forensic psychiatrist George Huang help to close the proceedings and convict the perpetrators.
