Metalocalypse is an adult-orientated animated cartoon series that follows the exploits of the insanely popular death metal band DethLok who are frequently attacked in some way by the self proclaimed “enlightened” Tribunal secret society.

The cartoon show has been described as "Spinal Tap meets Scooby-Doo meets Norway".  DethLok’s songs often construe bizarre violent acts such as the song Mermaider, about mermaid murder. Like their songs, DethLok’s live performances, are notoriously violent often seeing the crowd being injured, killed and in pain.

The band is part-American and part-Scandinavian and has become so famous that their brand endorsements cause products to become so incredibly popular that it drives competing brands out of business.

Their music is so popular that they are considered the twelfth largest economy on Earth which has caused them to become above the law further fueling their brutality and extreme “metal-ness”.

The unnatural popularity of DethLok has attracted a sworn enemy of the band, the Tribunal, an Illuminati-style group who believe they are enlightened. Tribunal makes regular attempts to destroy and thwart the band through bizarre and excessive measures.
