New Stitch a Day

Johnny Vasquez teaches his crafty viewers new knitting and crochet techniques in his creative webseries, New Stitch a Day.

Vasquez narrates each episode while displaying the craft techniques in a simple and methodical manner. The program assumes some knowledge of basic knitting and crochet techniques. It does not cater for novices, but instead targets viewers who want to advance their skills. However, the videos are clear enough that anyone with limited craft talents would likely be able to muddle through.

Vasquez launched the webseries as a way to better his own knitting and crochet skills. However the channel has now grown to become a teaching tool for others, and way to raise awareness of the arts of knitting and crochet.

The New Stitch a Day video archive is organized like a calendar, with thumbnail images corresponding to individual episodes. Clicking on these images takes viewers to the individual episode pages, which contain video players and step-by-step patterns for recreating the knitting and crochet projects. Controls along the base of each video player allow fans to pause and play the clips, adjust their volume, share them with friends and view them in full screen mode.
