Rescue Me is a gritty American drama series focusing on the professional and personal lives of a team of New York firefighters navigating life after 9/11.

The program's anti-hero is Tommy Gavin, a veteran firefighter played by Denis Leary. While he is regarded as a hero in his professional life, away from the job he is an abusive, and adulterous relapsed alcoholic. His dark persona is heightened by his suffering from the breakdown of his marriage and the death of his cousin Jimmy in the September 11 attack.

Tommy is not the only firefighter battling demons. Chief Reilly is addicted to gambling, and struggling to come to grips with his Alzheimer’s striken wife and gay son. Second-in-command Lou is a drunk looking to recover the money his prostitute ex-girlfriend stole.

The series has featured many famous actors in recurring guest roles including Susan Sarandon, Marisa Tomei, and Michael J. Fox.

The program has garnered critical acclaim, and is the recipient of Emmy nominations for writing, directing, and acting.

Rescue Me is unsuitable for children as it contains high level coarse language and sexual references, explicit violence, graphic sex scenes, and adult themes.
