Robotech: The Macross Saga is a Japanese mecha anime series which originally screened in 1985.

While it was originally broadcast in the 1980s, it was set in the year 1999. It tells the story of the origin of the Robotech Wars, a series of conflicts between aliens and earthlings.

The catalyst for this clash is the accidental crash landing of an alien starship on Earth. Humans restore the fortress using the advanced robot-technology they discover on board. This technology allows the people to make high-tech fighter planes with the power to become large robots. But when the fortress is ready to launch, the original alien owners, the Zentraedi warriors, discover its whereabouts. They descend on Earth, ready to take back the Robotech Master Zor that is rightfully theirs.

Robotech: The Macross Saga was directed by Robert V. Barron and Ippei Kuri. It is the first season of the Robotech chronicles, and focuses on the first Robotech War.
