Rootclip

Rootclip

Rootclip is an interactive movie website which encourages amateur filmmakers, writers, and cinema buffs to collaborate on stories.

Rootclip aims to be a catalyst, encouraging people to think and be creative with video. It is the brainchild of Kevin Antoine and Erik Luchauer, who were inspired by their love of choose-your-own adventure books. They took the philosophy of these interactive books and reinterpreted it for the web to create Rootclip.

The Rootclip team creates a short video, known as a rootclip, to start the story. Browsers are then invited to watch this clip and decide what should happen next. Filmmakers shoot their vision and upload it to the website during the submission period.

Then the site's judging panel and at-home viewers vote for their favorite video. This becomes the next part of the story, and the process begins again until the narrative reaches its conclusion. Winning videos get moe than glory, with a $250 cash reward and additional prizes offered.

Each clip lasts less than two minutes, and it takes six to complete each story.

The Rootclip video player contains basic controls allowing browsers to control video playback. Buttons underneath the video screen make it easy to adjust the volume, pause and play the video, and see the clip in large and regular viewing modes.
