Star Trek is a classic science fiction series from the 1960s. Its action focuses on the futuristic crew of the starship Enterprise. Star Trek stars William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.

William Shatner plays the crew's passionate captain, James T. Kirk. He is assisted by logical Mr. Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy and chief medical officer Leonard McCoy, played by DeForest Kelly.

As the opening voiceover explains, the starship Enterprise looks to "explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before."

The program's crew was revolutionary as it was made up of both men and women of different races. Characters from alien races, including the half-Vulcan Mr. Spock, were also a regular part of the Star Trek cast.

Star Trek also introduced audiences to many science fiction conventions, such as warp drive, teleportation, starship cloaking devices, and computer speech synthesis.

79 Star Trek episodes were broadcast between 1966 and 1969. Despite its relatively short run, it garnered a cult following.
