Yo! MTV Raps Video Clips

Yo! MTV Raps

Yo! MTV Raps was an American music video which ran from 1988 to 1995. It was the first hip hop music show on MTV, and featured video clips from the genres heyday.

The program was hosted by Doctor Dre, Ed Lover, and Fab 5 Freddy. It was crucial to the spread of hip-hop music around the world, as it exposed a global audience to the scene's style and sound.

Ratings began to fall when the program refused to air the violent video for Public Enemy's "By the Time I Get to Arizona" in 1991. It also considered banning the video for Cypress Hill's "How I Could Just Kill a Man," but reconsidered at the eleventh hour.

Yo! MTV Raps had its series finale on August 17, 1995. Numerous high-profile hip-hop stars closed the show with a freestyle rap session.

Each video is broken up into short segments. Browsers can choose to watch only the segments that interest them, or click the "continuous play" button at the bottom of the player to watch the episodes seamlessly.

The player also allows viewers to watch the videos in larger windows, send the videos to their friends, and embed the videos into their own websites.

The channel features year-by-year collections of music videos, and themes playlists.

Parental guidance is recommended as Yo! MTV Raps contains coarse language, sexual references, and adult themes.
